SingTel's subscriber numbers surge
Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) is a company that is doing a lot of things right at the moment. Slowly but steadily do they build up a very strong presence across the Asian region. We might not be wrong to say that the company is probably the strongest telecommunications company in the region.
Now, as reward of the regional expansion strategy, they report strong growth in their subscription numbers. They are stating that their regional mobile phone subscribers rose 38 percent from a year earlier to 56.35 million at the end of September 2004.
The difference to many other companies across the region? They expand regionally, they don't just talk about it. And they do it in the face of opposition - like the kind of opposition they have faced when they moved into the Australian market and acquired Optus. Now, Optus is one of the strongest jewels in their collection.
