Scammers teach Web students: Have you learnt your lesson?
Phishing is in, still. Many phishing mails look like they come from respectable financial institutions, such as CitiBank. However, now, that education of surfers sets in and not that many fall victim anymore (we all now know about the Nigerian Scam and its siblings in other countries, right?), scammers apparently switched strategy.
In Australia, many thousand Australians have been targeted by Russians to sign up for a two-weeks online training program. The scammers pretend to come from the Credit Suisse Group and says that the training program is run to recruit new employees, especially fresh graduates.
The catch? It comes in the second week, when students are asked to transfer some of their money as part of an exercise.
Our question? This comes in the second week - what happens in the first week? How good are the scammers?
The fraud Web site, which has already been shut down, was hosted on a .de Internet address. The Web site had been bought with a German credit card, which is believed to have been stolen and used by Russians.
